I've been Downtown, Oakland, Squirrel Hill, Southside and to The Waterfront searching for help. No luck as of yet, but in my search a man approached me for help.
The chain of libraries are not on one accord with their wireless and as this gentleman explained how he followed the established instructions to no avail. I jumped at the opportunity to help him. As he opened his Dell I turned his laptop to him to remove his security password. He told me that he doesn't use it much and that a log-on was not necessary for him. We followed the printed instructions, once again, then opened his browser to start changing his proxy. I suggested to him to try the firefox browser instead of ie. As we made the alterations he told how he had asked his parents for a Mac and they purchased the 15-inch Powerbook, loaded. He stated he felt guilty and returned it to purchase his Inspiron.
Well IE would not produce his internet options dialogue boxes for some strange reason so as I went to suggest a round-about it opened after some questioning of what's wrong. We completed installing the host address target as I noticed it was different from the Mac proxy directions. Address and all, unfortunately, we were still unable to connect to the internet until I picked up my Palm T3 and had him change the proxy address.
Hooray for hollywood...a connection. He was finally happy to connect to the libraries wi-fi, but had to leave.
I realized after we shook hands and he dashed out the door that I meant to inform him that he will have to remove or change this proxy for other access points of his favorite access-clad hangouts.
It feels so go I'm tempted to apply for an IT position again. It's surrounding me; driving me; taunting and seducing me...
I'm not sure I want to give-in. Is it truly what I waant to do? Let's see the next coming sabbaths.
